While Nedbank Namibia’s strongest affinity may well be cycling, this did not deter the Bank from supporting the country’s rugby heroes as they ventured off to England to take on the might of the rugby world at the Rugby World Cup
While Nedbank Namibia’s strongest affinity may well be cycling, this did not deter the Bank from supporting the country’s rugby heroes as they ventured off to England to take on the might of the rugby world at the Rugby World Cup. As the bank’s Managing Director, Lionel Matthews, intimated at a breakfast function to host the team, the Bank’s support is premised on our national duty to do so.
“We support our national heroes because they carry the hopes of our entire nation when they compete against the world’s best on shores far removed from ours. We support them because they fly our country’s banner in the global stage on behalf of every single one of our two million countrymen and women. We do so because we recognise our obligation to do whatever we can to fire up national pride,” said Matthews.
The president of the Namibia Rugby Union, Bradley Basson, thanked Nedbank, saying they hoped that further ties would develop.
“Nedbank Namibia is a good potential partner for the future. They don't just support cycling, but they aim to provide support for those things that really matter. It's assistance like this that's needed to take sport in this country to heights not seen before,” said the NRU president.
