11 September - Long-distance runners Simon Matias and Martha Shivolo were crowned winners of the 2023 Nedbank CitiDash Run on Sunday, 10 September, after successfully outclassing their opponents in the 10-kilometre (km) elite race category.
The event, which is in its third installation, made a welcome return after a three-year hiatus and saw over 2,000 runners partake in the 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre races.
The race started and finished at Zoo Park on Independence Avenue, opposite the new Nedbank Campus.
The Nedbank CitiDash races will start at 07h30 am with the 10-kilometre Elite Runners, who will race under the Elite Men and Women, Under-18 Men and Women, Wheelchair, and Visually impaired, categories. The winners of these respective categories will walk away with amazing prices courtesy of the organisers, and sponsors.
The second race, which is the 5 and 10-kilometre fun run and walk will start at 08h30 am.
All races will start, and finish will at Zoo Park, just opposite the new Nedbank Campus. The route will head south, around Ausspannplatz and then around Snyman’s circle. Runners will then head back-up Independence Avenue, passing Zoo Park, continuing further north. The turnaround for the 5-kilometre race is indicated by a turnaround sign close to the Engen Service Station.
The 10-kilometre runners will continue to the Simon De Witt bridge, go around the fire department circle, and turn around for the home stretch back to Zoo Park.
Registration and race-number collection will take place on Saturday, 9 September at the Nedbank Campus - Corner of Fidel Castro & Rev. Michael Scott Street; from 11h00 - 15h00. All runners who entered into the race are expected to collect their numbers in order to participate in the race on Sunday.
Nedbank Namibia Communication and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge says that the excitement is immense from the runners in Nedbank, and from the external participants.
“It’s officially Nedbank CitiDash season and all we have been hearing from runners since the launch is ‘when can we run - will there be a viking chant again this year - can I register my family’? The support has been incredible from the get-go and preparations for this race would not have been possible without the support of our organisers and sponsors for this race,” she said.
Kaulinge continued: “As a company which lives the purpose of being money experts who do good, we are proud to host this event not only because of the fact that it promotes a healthy lifestyle, but also because running symbolises endurance, perseverance and grit, which are elements we at Nedbank Namibia resonate with as we are also celebrating our 50 Year Anniversary of operations in Namibia. We are excited for Sunday and cannot wait to see everyone in their running kits ready to run this city,” she concluded.
The Nedbank CitiDash is sponsored by M+Z Motors, NHP, Checkers, Multichoice Namibia, OSH-Med International; and is organised by Cycletec and OTB Sport.
