17 December 2024 Organisers of the third edition of the 2024 Nedbank Volley 1st Tournament, scheduled for 21 December at Mole in Swakopmund, say it’s all systems go for the highly anticipated social tournament.
Dave Hammond of Connect People to People (CPTP) said they have partnered with Nedbank Namibia to organise the Volley 1st Tournament, which moves from the northern parts of the country to the coast for the first time.
“The first two editions of the volley ball tournament took place in Ongwediva in 2022, and Oshakati in 2023. This year, we are scheduled to have the tournament in Swakopmund because everybody comes over for the December holidays,” he said.
He added that they expect between 12 and 24 teams to participate in the six-a side tournament, where eight-man teams must have at least two women on the court. Hammond also added that the tournament is a social event mostly for average volleyball players and corporate companies who are looking to wind down as the year comes to an end.
“We don’t expect the Namibia Volleyball Federation registered volleyball players to participate because this event is mainly for corporates, families, and friends who will find themselves at the coast during the day to come and have fun. It will be a fun day for everyone,” he explained.
Entry fees are N$800 per team, and there are only 24 spots reserved for the tournament, which will have prizes of up to N$12 000 up for grabs.
Nedbank Namibia Executive Head of Marketing and Communications, Gernot de Klerk said they are thrilled to be part of the ever-growing Nedbank Volley 1st Tournament.
“Nedbank Namibia is thrilled to support an event that embodies the values of social cohesion, community empowerment, and the growth of sport in our nation. This tournament is more than just a competition; it’s an opportunity to bring people together, strengthen connections, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of volleyball. Our recent partnership with CPTP in establishing the Outdoor Activity Hub further underscores our commitment to creating spaces where families and individuals can engage in meaningful, active lifestyles. These initiatives are at the heart of what we stand for: fostering unity and development in our communities,” he added.
De Klerk stated that Nedbank Namibia fully supports such impactful endeavours and encourages other corporates to join them in championing initiatives that uplift and inspire.
“I urge all sports lovers, families, friends, and businesses to be part of the third edition of the Volley 1st Tournament, whether as participants or supporters; let’s come together to make this event unforgettable,” he concluded.
On top of the volleyball, Nedbank and CPTP have also set up the Outdoor Activity Hub in Swakopmund, at the Tennis Court Parking area, where offer various activities such as skating, mini golf/putt-putt, axe throwing, a rope tree course, jumping castles, a kiddies train, a mechanical bull, and an escape room, over the festive season.
