Schmidt, Chifupa win Windhoek leg of the Nedbank for Good Series

25 September - Heinrich Schmidt and Claris Chipfupa emerged as victors in the tenth round of this year’s Nedbank for Good Series at the Windhoek Golf & Country Club this past Saturday. 

A total of 79 amateur golf players, of which seven were women, successfully teed off under windy conditions in a bid to win a spot in the finals taking place in two weeks’ time at the Omeya Golf Club. 

In the men’s competition, the race was so tight that some players in the top five had to be separated by a count out. Schmidt scored 42 points to come out on top, ahead of Granworth Vries on 39 points in second place. Third place was taken by Benoit Schrywer, who scored 39 counted out following a tie. Tiaan Grobler and Brandon Stoffels, each scored 38 points each, with Grobler taking fourth place via the count out.

In the women's competition, Chipfupa scored 42 points, ahead of Celonika Robinson, who scored 35 points, to secure the second-place position, and Natasja Louw, who scored 32 points in third place. 

Organiser Dan Zwiebel said the event went well despite difficult weather conditions. 

“Congratulations to the winners for a great performance today. The wind made it a bit difficult for the players, but they produced some good scores. We would like to thank the committee and management for their support in delivering yet another top-notch event. We look forward to the final where we will crown this year’s champion,” he said.

This year's series kicked off at Omeya Golf Club before going to Gobabis, Oranjemund, Tsumeb, Mariental, Oshakati, Walvis Bay, Rossmund Golf Course, Henties Bay Golf & Lifestyle Estate, and finally coming to Windhoek Golf & Country Club. 

As part of Nedbank Namibia's commitment to giving back to the community, the event's proceeds are directed towards the Rössing Foundation and its primary beneficiaries, the learners and teachers in rural schools, who have benefited immensely from the Nedbank for Good Series. The Mobile Laboratory will be available for learners at Omeya Golf Club, which will help them gain knowledge through various experiments.

It’s all systems go as the finalists now head to Omeya Golf Club on Friday, 6 October, to crown the champion of the Nedbank for Good Series and once again conclude another successful year.
